甲骨文“学”字，上半部分左右两边是朝下的两只手的象形，中间是两根交错的算筹，与两边的“手”结合，表示教授算术之法；下半部分是一座房子的侧视图，代表场所，也有学者认为“房子”实际上是数字“六”。
The oracle bone script form of the Chinese character xué（“学”， meaning learning）consists of two sections.
In its upper part， pictographs of two hands curve downwards on either side， enclosing two intersecting counting rods. Combined with the hands， this motif illustrates the teaching of arithmetic.
The lower section depicts a side profile of a building， signifying a venue for learning. However， some scholars hold the view that this shape， interpreted as a “building”， actually stands for the numeral six（“六”，liù）.
